Junior Information

Welcome Juniors!!!

Attention all Future Golf and Tennis Stars! This information is all for you and ONLY YOU!

Windermere Golf & Country Club is currently entering it's 35th year for it's Junior Golf & Tennis programs.  It is our objective that we provide each junior the skill set, not only in golf and tennis, but in their developement of social skills, proper attitudes, courtesy and sportsmanship.  We offer both a July and August session in golf and tennis and the session concludes with a family BBQ and awards prestentation to all particpants.

In keeping with our focus on being recognized as a leading family-oriented golf and country club on the Muskoka Lakes, we are excited to be announcing a new, enriched Junior Program at Windermere this summer. Our objective is to increase our junior membership base, foster a greater sense of community among all of our juniors and attract new families who will ultimately become life long members of our Club. We have one of the best water accessible semi-private country clubs on the Muskoka Lakes and combining this with a new, robust junior program, should put us in a strong position to attract and build our junior membership.

This new and improved junior program will consist of not only an expanded tennis and golf lesson program but will also include many new play and social opportunities for juniors and their families. The assistant pro, Peter Warnaar, will be the new Junior Coordinator and will be overseeing the entire junior program this summer. All the information you and your juniors need to know is outlined in our first ever Windermere Golf & Country Club 2009 Junior Handbook.

In the past, there have been many different levels of junior participation at the Club. Some juniors join as the independent members of the Club. Some, who join, have parents/grandparents who are also members. Some participate at the Club, but do not join, although their parents are members. Finally, some are non-member lesson-only participants with no other family connection to the Club.

In order to expand and enrich the junior program the Board has decided to put everyone on an equal footing and offer one enriched junior program. This will mean that all juniors participating will be junior members (no initiation fee). Please note: If you have a junior who does not wish to participate in any of the club lesson programs or events; your junior may still play golf or tennis on a “pay as you play” basis. Juniors will have the option of participating in a lesson and play membership or a play only membership.

This new junior membership will give all juniors (whether they take lessons or not) the opportunity to participate in all expanded junior club activities as well as unlimited golf and tennis play within the policies outlined for juniors; all at very affordable rates. Please see the attached 2009 Junior Handbook for complete rules and regulations, regarding booking privileges, playing times and course etiquette, etc.

Additionally, we have decided to tier the membership rates for those juniors under 15 years of age to $50 (if the junior is 9 and under) and $100 (if the junior is between 10-14). This is a wonderful benefit to our younger juniors and again builds on our philosophy of increasing participation at the Club.

To encourage children/grandchildren of existing members, who only occasionally visit Windermere, we will be offering a weekly prorated lesson fee (maximum 2 weeks) of $50/week/activity. Please speak to Peter Warnaar, our new Junior Coordinator, to make this arrangement.

Most importantly, all juniors are rewarded for maintaining a continuous membership with a significant reduction in their initiation fees when they reach the age of adult conversion. The discount ranges from 10-50% with the maximum achieved after 15 years of continuous membership. See the Handbook for more details.

The 2009 lesson fees and membership rates for the junior golf and tennis and teen golf clinics are outlined in the enclosed Junior Handbook (pg 10-16). A separate membership application form to register for junior membership and or lessons is included within this package. All junior fees are payable by June 1st 2009.

We hope you are as enthusiastic as we are about the new junior opportunities that will be available this summer.

We welcome any feedback you may have on the program and certainly any new ideas. Should you wish to help on our Junior Committee, please email mark@windermeregolf.ca

Our juniors are our future. Let’s get them out on the course or courts and developing an early lifelong love of the game!!
